An independently licensed clinical and chemical dependency counselor, she is experienced in providing both adult depression counseling and anxiety therapy in both in-person and online teletherapy environments.
Everyone has experienced the blues at some point. Stress, fear or worry can affect your quality of life. But if you are clinically depressed, it’s more than just a sad feeling or down mood. Major depression is not just an emotion, it’s a dangerous disorder that touches 5-10% of American adults in a given year. Over a lifetime, one in five — 20% — will have an episode of major depression. Women are twice as likely to suffer from depression as men.
Depression can lead to physical issues
People often don’t know why they are depressed or feeling anxious, and many don’t realize that depression is actually a biochemical disorder that can affect nearly every area of your life. Many also don’t realize that extreme anxiety can lead to depression that can result in physical symptoms such as gastrointestinal problems, lower immune issues, fatigue, and loss of sleep.
The good news is that anxiety and depression are both very treatable, and we’re here to help. By working with Patty, you will learn to identify the “stinking thinking” that keeps you anxious and depressed, and skills to manage those feelings and eliminate your depression. She will support your efforts to process and resolves issues that keep you stuck and, most importantly, help you gain confidence in your ability to manage your moods. Sometimes medication can be helpful, and Patty will help you determine whether a medication evaluation is advisable.
But most of all, you will learn to care for and love yourself again. Patty’s treatment goal in depression counseling is that you enjoy life fully, once again experiencing happiness and joy.
